PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Mike Omicioli and Doug Sheppard each netted two goals to lead the Providence College Friars to a 6-3 win against Boston University in HOCKEY EAST action on Saturday, Feb. 13 at PC's Schneider Arena. The win was PC's third regular-season victory against the Terriers in 1998-99 and marked the first time the Friars ever won three regular-season games against the Terriers in the same season.

Providence and BU combined for four goals in the first period and all were scored in special teams situations. The Friars opened the scoring when Nick Lent took a pass and ripped a shot through BU goaltender Michel Larocque's five hole in a short handed situation at 4:04 of the first. The Terriers tied the game with a power-play goal by Carl Corazzini who poked in a rebound at the 8:21 mark. Sheppard gave the Friars a 2-1 lead as he tipped a shot from the left point during a five-on-three power play for the Friars at 17:03 of the first period. PC quickly increased its lead to 3-1 with its second power-play goal of the period when Troy Lake tipped in a shot from the left point at the 17:22 mark.

Strong special teams play continued into the second period. Mike Omicioli started the offense in the second when he finished off a two-on-one break in for the Friars' fourth goal of the game at 8:53 of the second. Joe DiPenta blasted in a shot from the right point on a power-play to cut PC's lead to 4-2 at the 12:29 mark. BU's Albie O'Connell made it a one-goal game with the Terriers' third tally of the night when he one-timed a shot high over PC goaltender Boyd Ballard at 17:19 of the second. Sheppard netted his second of the night on a power-play at 19:34 of the second to regain a two-goal advantage for the Friars.

Mike Omicioli added his second goal of the game when he stole the puck at BU's blueline and rifled a wrist shot past Larocque at 5:13 of the third.

With the win, Providence raised its record to 16-13 overall and 10-9 in HOCKEY EAST action, while Boston University fell to 11-15-3 overall and 6-10-3 in league play.

Providence College will return to action against Merrimack on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7:00 p.m. at PC's Schneider Arena.
