PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College senior swimmer Jane Thompson (Halifax, Nova Scotia) has been named a recipient of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics Student Achievement Award. The N4A Achievement Award honors five to 10 student-athletes throughout the country every year. The student-athletes all have overcome great personal, academic and/or emotional odds to achieve academic success while participating in intercollegiate athletics.
Thompson has had a stellar career for the PC swim team while battling cystic fibrosis. In addition to the demands of being a student-athlete, Thompson must take an average of 40 vitamins and supplements a day and use an aerosol mask twice a day. She served as one of the Friar captains this season and helped lead the team to a 6-5 mark. Thompson competed in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly.
Thompson, a 1995 graduate of Ambrae Academy, is the daughter of Ian and Donna Thompson.
