Friars Roll Over C.W. Post, 21-10

Providence, R.I. - The Providence College Friars pounded out 21 hits including four doubles and four homeruns as they downed the C.W. Post University Pioneers, 21-10, at Hendricken Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Mike Scott, Angelo Ciminiello and Paul Costello each drove in four runs in the game to lead the PC offensive attack. Scott went 3-for-6 with a double and a triple, Ciminiello was 4-for-5 with a double and a two-run homerun and Costello was also 3-for-5 including his first homer of the season that drove in three of his four runs on the afternoon.

Catcher Dan Conway was 3-for-3 in the game with two doubles and extended his current hitting streak to 15-games. That ties Keith Reed for the longest hitting streak of the season. Coley O'Donnell added a two-run homer and a run scoring double for three rbi's in his two trips to the plate

Second baseman Tom Wigand led the Pioneers with a 3-for-4 game including four rbi's. One of his three hits was a three-run homer in the third inning. Right fielder Pat Rock was 3-for-5 also with a pair of runs batted in on the game.

Freshman lefthander Ryan Lewis pitched five innings, giving up four runs, to get the win for PC. He is now 4-1 on the season. C.W. Post starter Dennis Schneidler lasted two-and-two-third innings to fall to 0-3 on the year. With the win, the Friars are now 24-7 overall while the Pioneers fall to 3-13-1 on the season.

Providence travels to Notre Dame for a BIG EAST doubleheader on Thursday, April 1st. Game time in South Bend, Indiana is 12 noon.
