Friars Drop BIG EAST Game At Boston College

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College Eagles won the home run derby, 6-3, and won the baseball game, 16-11, on Wednesday afternoon in a BIG EAST league game at BC's Commander Shea Field.

Mike Hubbard, Steve Langone, Sean McGowan with two and Eric Olson with a pair outbombed Keith Reed, Neal McCarthy and Dan Conway in a game that saw Providence blow a 6-1 lead after two innings.

The loss evens the two schools at 3-6 in the BIG EAST with the Friars falling to 26-10 overall and the Eagles improving to 11-12 on the year.

Sophomore lefthander Mike Stuart fell to 2-2 on the season as he lasted just 3-and-2/3 innings giving up ten runs, seven earned on the day. Scott Swanjord and Todd Murray followed Stuart to the hill for PC. BC ace Steve Langone go the win to improve to 3-3 on the year despite giving up 15 hits and ten runs in 7-and-1/3 innings.

The Friars were led offensively by MIke O'Keefe, Jamie Athas and Dan Conway as each had three hits in the game. Reed drove in three runs, while Paul Costello and Conway each had a pair of rbi's.

PC was undone by a seven-run fourth inning highlighted by back-to-back homers by Sean McGowan and Langone.

PC returns to action on Thursday afternoon when the Friars travel to the University of Rhode Island for a 3:00 p.m. game with the Rams.
