Baseball Routs Holy Cross, 24-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I - Providence College's sophomore right fielder Keith Reed hit for the cycle and drove in six runs as the Friars pounded Holy Cross, 24-3, at PC's Hendricken Field. Providence had 21 hits in the game including homers from Coley O'Donnell and Paul Costello.

Reed, a native of Auburn, Massachusetts singled in the second, singled in the fifth, doubled in the sixth, tripled to the deepest part of Hendricken Field in the eight and hit his 11th homer of the season in the eighth, a two-run shot. Reed is now hitting .413 on the season with 11 homers and 42 rbi's.

Joining Reed in providing offense for PC was designated hitter, Rudy Mauritz who was 2-3 with three rbi's, second baseman Paul Costello was 4-6 with a homer, a double and four rbi's and Coley O'Donnell drove in three with his eighth inning home run.

Freshman lefthander Andy Scott got the win for the Friars giving up just four hits over six innings. He's now 3-0 on the season. John Pierano took the loss for Holy Cross to fall to 1-1 on the season.

The win improves Providence to 17-7 on the season. The Friars host Boston College in a BIG EAST game on Wednesday at Hendricken Field. Holy Cross is now 3-10 on the year.
