Baseball Loses at Quinnipiac in Bottom of Ninth

PROVIDENCE, R.I....Quinnipiac College's Joe Zangari hit his second home run of the game, this one comint in the bottom of the ninth off of Providence reliever Mike Pandolfo to snap an 11-11 tie and give the Braves a 12-11 win over the Friars. Zangari also hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning giving Quinnipiac an 11-6 lead.
The Friars had battled back from 7-1 and 11-6 deficits to tie the game in the top of the ninth. With two outs in the top of the ninth and down 11-8, PC rallied. Sophomore designated hitter Jeremy Sweet hit his second homer of the game to make it 11-9. After pitcher Chris Pinto loaded the bases, sophomore outfielder Jason Hairston ripped a two-run single to right scoring Coley O'Donnell and Bryan Tamul with the tying run to help set up Zangari's bottom of the ninth heroics.
Sweet led the Friars with a 4-5 game that featured two homers and two singles with four rbi's. Hairston was 2-6 in the game with a pair of rbi's and four other Friars had two hits each.
Zangari led the Quinnipiac attack with the two homers and six rbi's in the game. Left fielder Mark Sylvia had three hits, including a home run and drove in three runs in the game.
Ryan Brown got the win for Quinnipiac with 1/3-inning of scoreless relief. Pandolfo took the loss for the Friars to fall to 0-1.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, April 4th with a doubleheader against Seton Hall beginning at 12 noon.
