PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Boston College sophomore righthander Steve Langone scattered nine hits and dodged several potential Providence College rallies to take a 3-1 decision from the Friars at Hendricken Field. Langone walked none and struck out eight as the lone run he surrendered was unearned in the fourth inning. The win improves his record to 3-4 on the season.

Langone got all the offense he would need in the second and third innings. In the second, BC slugger Sean McGowan ripped a Marc DesRoches pitch over the rightfield fence for his 11th homer of the year.

In the third, Langone helped his own cause with an infield hit with two outs. He came around to score on McGowan's two-out double which made it 2-0. McGowan scored on an rbi single from BC's Chang Choe and the score was 3-0.

PC broke through in the fourth. Angelo Ciminiello singled to open the inning. Scott Friedholm grounded to third, but third baseman Joe Durkin threw the ball away allowing Ciminiello to reach third. Designated hitter Coley O'Donnell hit into a double play and Ciminiello scored the Friars only run of the game.

PC would threaten in the seventh, eighth and ninth, but Langoe always came up with the big pitch as he got strikeouts to end the seventh and got out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth with a strikeout of Keith Reed.

Providence had some of its own fielding heroics turning a triple play in the seventh. With Todd Murray pitching and runners on first and third, Murray got Jeff Waldron to smash one at PC second baseman Paul Costello. Costello relayed to Pat Carey who got a force at second. Carey threw to first to get the hitter, but runner Joe Durkin broke for home. Mike O'Keefe's relay beat the runner and Scott Friedholm blocked home and tagged out Durkin for the triple play.

Marc DesRoches (6-3) took the loss for the Friars who fall to 26-14-1 overall and 11-5-1 in the BIG EAST. Boston College is now 12-18-1 overall and 2-10-1 in league play.

The Friars return to action on Thursday with a home doubleheader against Brown. The first game begins at 1:00 p.m. at Hendricken Field.
