BU Defeats Men's Hockey, 8-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Boston University Terriers defeated the Providence College Friars, 8-2, in the second game of a best of three HOCKEY EAST Quarterfinal series on Saturday, March 13 at PC's Schneider Arena. Mike Pandolfo and Tommi Degerman led the BU offense with two goals each.

The Quarterfinal series is now tied at 1-1 and the two teams will play on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at PC's Schneider Arena. The winner advances to the Semifinals to play New Hampshire at the FleetCenter on Friday.

BU got on the scoreboard first when Degerman ripped a shot from the right face off circle which PC netminder Boyd Ballard stopped but Degerman pushed in his own rebound at 3:41 of the first. The Friars evened the game at 14:49 during a two-on-one break in when Drew Omicioli fed a pass to Nick Lent who one timed a shot past BU goaltender Michel Larocque.

The BU offense came to life in the second period, scoring five unanswered goals in 20 minutes. Chris Heron opened the scoring with his 18th goal of the season at 1:58 of the second. Pandolfo poked in a rebound at 2:32 to give the Terriers a two-goal lead. Greg Quebec continued the scoring fury when he one timed a shot from four feet in front of the net at 3:48. Pandolfo added his second of the period at 14:23 and Bobby Hanson lifted in a rebound at 19:31 to finish off the Terriers' scoring. After Pandolfo's second goal Ballard was replaced in net by Friar goaltender Mark Kane.

The Friars tallied a quick power play goal by Jerry Keefe at :28 of the third for their final goal of the game. Joe DiPenta scored at 3:55 and Tommi Degerman netted BU's eighth goal at 10:28 of the third period.

With the win, Boston University improved to 14-19-3 overall , while Providence fell to 19-16-1 overall.

Providence College will return to action against Boston University on Sunday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the third game of the best of three HOCKEY EAST Quarterfinal series at PC's Schneider Arena
