Providence, R.I. --The Providence College Women's Hockey defeated the Wayne State Warriors, 8-0, in women's hockey action, on December 11, at PC's Schneider Arena Providence senior forward Colleen Doherty (Arlington, Mass.) started the Friars offense, scoring one minute into the first on a feed from Brynn Vehec (Kenewick, Wash.). PC added two more first period goals, scored by Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) and Kim Mathias. (Ballston Lake, N.Y.)
Jackie Tamsin (Branford, Conn.) opened the second with a goal 32 seconds into the period. Katherine Cahill gave the Friars a 5-0 lead, at the 13:27 mark.
In the third period, Tamsin and Mathias notched their second goals of the game, and freshman Melanie Ruzzi (Burnsville, Minn.) finished the scoring at the 16:34 mark to give PC a 8-0 victory.
Friars goalie Brigid Keady stopped 12 shots for the shutout win, while Stacey Bowden turned away 38 shots for Wayne State.
Providence record stands 9-4-1 overall, 6-3-1 in the ECAC, the Warriors drop to 0-12.
Providence will return to action on January 8, when they host ECAC rival Harvard University at 2:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena
