PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Sophomore goaltender Boyd Ballard made 30 saves and earned his third career shutout as Providence College defeated Dartmouth College, 2-0, in men's college hockey action on Friday, December 10 in Providence, R.I.
After a scoreless first period, the Friars tallied the first goal of the game on a shot from Mike Farrell during a power-play. The Friars won the face off in the Dartmouth zone and Farrell blasted a shot from the right point that beat Dartmouth goaltender Nick Boucher low to the glove side at the 3:06 mark. Jay Leach added an insurance goal for Providence at 13:21 of the second when his wrist shot from the left point found the back of the net.
Ballard made 12 of his 30 saves in the final period to preserve the shutout for PC. Boucher played strong in goal for the Big Green, recording 29 stops.
With the win, the Friars raised their record to 9-7 overall, while Dartmouth fell to 2-4-2.
Providence College will return to action on December 29 against Union College in the first game of the RPI Tourmanent in Troy, N.Y.
