PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team announced its 2023 schedule today (January 9). The Friars will play 51 games during the 2023 season, including three tournaments, 24 BIG EAST conference games and 19 home games.
The Friars finished last season with a 25-31 overall record with a 11-13 conference mark.
Providence will begin its season at Stetson University in Stetson, Fla. from Feb. 10 – 12 for the Stetson Lead-Off Classic. The Friars will match-up against Dayton and Stetson on Friday February 12 and then will play Stetson and Fairleigh Dickinson twice for the remainder of the tournament.
The Friars will then travel to Charleston Southern University to play five games in the Buc Up! Tournament from Feb. 17-19. They will play UMass in one game and then face North Dakota and Charleston Southern twice.
Before playing in their final tournament, the Friars will face Merrimack on Wednesday, March 1 in North Andover, Mass. Providence will then travel to Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. from March 3-5 for the Purple and Gold Challenge Tournament. The Friars will face St. Louis, Lipscomb and Youngstown State.
The Friars will play at Austin Peay (March 7), vs. UMass (March 15), vs. Stonehill (March 22), vs. URI (March 29), vs. Boston University (April 12), at Stony Brook (April 15), at Harvard (April 18), vs. Boston College (April 19) and vs. Brown (April 26) as their non-conference games to wrap up the season.
Providence will welcome UConn (March 17-19), Buter (March 24-26), Seton Hall (April 21-23) and Creighton (April 28-30) for its home BIG EAST opponents. UConn won the BIG EAST regular season title last season after finishing 20-4 in conference play. Villanova won the BIG EAST Tournament for the second consecutive season, by defeating UConn in the Championship game, 3-0.
The Friars will travel to St. John's (March 10-12), DePaul (March 31- April 2), Georgetown (April 5-6) and Villanova (May 5-7).
The BIG EAST Championship will be held from May 10-13 in Storrs, Conn.
